Mont Blanc
In June 2013 we visited the town of Chamonix. It is not exactly Switzerland, but I decided to include this article in the same section because we visited the town while staying in Switzerland. In this town there is a cable car to the top of Aiguille du Midi (3842 meters), from which there is a beautiful view of Mont Blanc:
The cable car ticket to the top of Aiguille du Midi costs 50 euros per person. You can also buy tickets for a panoramic ride through the Mont Blanc valley, but unfortunately when we were there that route was closed.
We got to Chamonix by bus from Geneva; this is the fastest option and takes about an hour. But SwissPass does not work there. SwissPass holders can still get there for free, but the trip will take about 3 hours from Geneva. Even though Chamonix is in France, they have an agreement with Switzerland. For the free route, travel to the Swiss station Martigny, then continue by train to Vallorcine, from there take bus BUS86974 to Argentiere (Haute-Savoie), and then one more train. The whole route can be built using sbb.ch. I described how to use it in my first post.
Here are several photos of the view from the peak of Aiguille du Midi.
